Factors contributing to pharmacists’ intention to provide weight management service in community pharmacy settings: A systematic review

Background: Obesity is one of the health problems which could cause impacts, as well economic and social impacts. Community pharmacists are accessible primary care providers who can play a role in counselling on diet exercise to control weight correcting medication misuse for control. Literature has shown effectiveness management services (WMS) provided by community pharmacists, but percentages this service provision were low. Objective: To systematically review contributing factors pharmacists’ intention provide services. Results: The systematic included 3,884 participants from 24 studies. There four major dimensions pharmacies: 1) patient recruitment, 2) problem identification referral, 3) counselling, 4) monitoring. Pharmacists indicated difficulty starting conversation about with patients. Most performed weight-loss product few monitored patients’ progress adherence WMS because follow-up difficulty. They recommended use mobile applications media facilitate viewed that those products needed be better regulated. Therefore, it should responsibility correct irrational these products. Pharmacists’ authority, inadequate pharmacist staff, lack awareness, demand, private areas barriers service. Knowledge training, accreditation, time study, reimbursement, multidisciplinary collaboration, resource support motivate WMS. start WMS, reported need knowledge diet, lifestyle modification, products, improving engagement programs. Conclusion: study conceptual framework had positive attitude toward skills resources pharmacy.
